Overview of Role:

The Enterprise Architect has an end-to-end responsibility for ensuring the completeness of architecture in their enterprise domain of practice or scope of business capability delivery. Adequately addressing all the pertinent concerns of its stakeholders; and the integrity of the architecture, in terms of connecting all the various views, technologies and components to each other, satisfactorily reconciling the conflicting concerns of different stakeholders, and showing the trade-offs made in meeting these goals.

The choice of which particular architecture views to develop is one of the key decisions that the Enterprise Architect has to make, this choice has to be constrained by considerations of practicality, cost, and by the principle of fitness-for-purpose. The Enterprise Architect holds the overall responsibility for the completeness of architectural design and documentation at a business, information and technical reference model level. The focus of the Enterprise Architect is on enterprise-level business capabilities required. This provides the organization with the ability to make priority-based decisions and an input into how the project portfolio should be aligned.

The role is responsible for developing, maintaining, communicating and governing Enterprise Architectures and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies, business goals and technology strategies and plans.

Key deliverables include:

  • Developing enterprise-wide architecture and processes to embed the strategic application of change in the management of the organization.
  • Ensuring the buy-in of all key stakeholders.
  • Leading the creation and review of a systems capability strategy that meets the strategic requirements of the business.
  • Capturing and prioritizing market and environmental trends, business strategies and objectives, and identifies the business benefits of alternative strategies. Developing and presenting business cases for approval, funding and prioritization of high-level initiatives.
  • Being responsible for tracking and evaluating emerging trends relevant to enterprise architecture in both IT and the airline industry and maintain a strong relationship with appropriate vendors and business partners.
  • Understanding and interpreting requirements by probing for information, influencing people, facilitating consensus, synthesizing / translating ideas into actionable items and articulating those ideas to others. Embody requirements in the architecture specification.
  • Being responsible for developing well-formulated models of the components of the solution, augmenting the models as necessary to fit all the circumstances. Showing multiple views through models to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Being responsible for validating, refining, and expanding the architecture model by verify assumptions, bringing in subject matter experts, etc. Improving the model by adding as necessary new ideas to make the result more flexible and more tightly linked to current and expected requirements.
  • Setting strategies, policies, standards and practices to ensure compliance between business strategies, technology strategies, and enterprise transformation activities.
  • Providing advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards.
  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate methods and tools in line with agreed policies and standards.
  • Implementing methods and tools at programme, project and team levels including selection and tailoring in line with agreed standards.
  • Being responsible for helping set and maintain architectural standards, as derived by corporate standards bodies such as Architecture Boards or equivalent.
  • Contributing to organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools.
  • Managing reviews of the benefits and value of methods and tools. Identifies and recommends improvements.
  • Being accountable for providing roadmaps (i.e. high level views of technology and the organization from which plans are created and/or evolved). Roadmaps will include business growth opportunities via technology, functional areas to focus on and where to invest technology dollars, etc.
  • Presenting concepts to senior leaders as necessary, up to and including the CEO, while explaining technical items in an appropriate manner for non-technical audiences.
  • Maintaining knowledge leadership and contribute to mentorship of others in a way that contributes to strategy and acts as a catalyst for change, as opposed to a barrier.
  • Mentoring, developing, and inspiring highly skilled team(s) of Solution Architects.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Security or Business Administration and 10+ years of experience preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, providing mentorship and technical guidance to other team members
  • Requires expert problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills including influencing others
  • Broad knowledge of all aspects of IT, including application development, network and system administration, quality assurance, and application and data management in both traditional and cloud delivery models.
  • Strong understanding of development architecture such as API, web services, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of data privacy, cloud security, application security, platform security, authentication security and database security controls
  • Strong understanding of domain specific modelling frameworks
  • Good understanding of architecture frameworks and their applicability including TOGAF, SABSA, Archimate and the C4 model
  • Expert knowledge of industry best practices and applicable regulatory requirements, including PCI, PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA
  • Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) designation preferred
  • Open Group Open Certified Architect (Open CA) certification preferred
  • Expert knowledge of computer and telecom systems, hardware and software theory, practice, concepts, and technology relevant to organizational vision
  • Demonstrable experience of programme, project and agile methodologies and their applicability to successful delivery of technical change.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering revenue capture and revenue protection outcomes at an Enterprise level.
