The role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a key part in disposing of seven legacy submarines at Rosyth. You will be able to fully utilise your skills across maintenance of the platforms, rip out of systems and various other tasks as required to allow the project to succeed. The SDP project is a world first at dis-mantling a nuclear vessel in its entirety, allowing the MOD to focus its resources on its front-line assets. 

Day-to-day, you’ll carry-out planned installations, maintenance, and removals of temporary and fixed mechanical equipment to support Laid up Submarines, Nuclear Facilities, Submarine Docking Periods, and the Submarine Dismantling Programme. You will also: 

• Removal of pipe systems in the submarine
• Removal of mechanical equipment in the submarine
• Assist in the management of materials to / from Submarine and Dockside boundaries

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth. 

Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter 

• Recent and relevant experience working in a similar service provider environment. 
• A recognised mechanical fitter/turner apprenticeship
• Agreement to work in areas which will expose individual to ionising radiation (radiation worker)
• Open mind to change (supporting Composite working environment within SDP)

Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter

• A minimum of an ONC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Grade 1 qualified personnel to adhere to, sign off on the following: PAG procedures, NSAG procedures, NOMS (LUSM Maintenance), Method Statements, Test Certs (e.g.: tank testing, lifting equipment etc), Risk Assessment amendments

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
