We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to work within Rolls-Royce Power Systems (RRPS) in Bristol.
They will be assisting the Assistant Chief Engineer Mechanical with their responsibilities in leading design and verification activities. Key interfaces will be the Electrical Design and Programme Management Team.

What you will be doing:
You will be responsible for authoring, reviewing, and verifying Marine and Mechanical designs for power distribution systems; you will:
- Lead the production and technical management of mechanical CAD design of Naval power distribution equipment.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the internal design review process is followed and will prepare documentation for approval, focussed and hands-on approach.
- Assist in managing the Product Introduction Lifecycle Management (PILM) process.
- Capture and record design rationale and associated technical risks.
- Engage with the business and wider project teams to deliver cost effective, compliant designs.
- Liaise with a spectrum of multidisciplinary engineers to ensure a holistic design process.
- Ensure that the physical and functional mechanical integration of electrical, automation and control systems meet all programme/value stream requirements.

- Be educated to degree level or equivalent in a mechanical field with experience in design techniques.
- Have proven experience in Mechanical design using 2D and 3D CAD to develop optimised design solutions.
- Be able to demonstrate good understanding of requirements management and verification at the component and system level.
- Have excellent communication/influencing skills, being able to clearly and effectively articulate ideas, plans and priorities to engineers of other disciplines.
- Be able to proactively identify issues and independently apply problem solving techniques to manage them through to resolution whilst considering all requirements, whether functional, regulatory or safety related.
- Be able to work both individually and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
It would be advantageous if you:
- Are professionally registered as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or be working towards gaining a professional status.
- Have knowledge and experience in the use of Siemens NX and TeamCenter.
- Possess strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and understand cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
- Are experienced in designing equipment to operate to naval, military, or similar environmental or regulatory standards.
- Demonstrable understanding of process driven drawing change control and associated configuration management principles.
