The Specialist Data and Analytics (Platform Admin Lead), will guide Air Canada’s data platform best practices. This individual oversees existing and new cloud platform to ensure they are optimal and reliable. The Key technologies are cloud based on Azure, the primary storage is Azure Data Lake Storage and Snowflake. The Key legacy cloud tools are Azure data factory and Databricks, Air Canada is pivoting to use Talend as our data integration (ETL/ELT), Data Iku to democratize data science and Collibra for data governance.
This position will be reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Operation, Data & Analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the software providers, Air Canada’s architects and specialists to implement our best practices.
- Guide the others platform admin to establish best practices surrounding the platform administration task.
- Participate in reviewing existing platform usage to propose cost optimization improvements.
- Lead the Platform admin activities:
- Understand and contribute to secure optimal infrastructure design and its deployment.
- Place requests to supporting the Cloud Administrators for the required VMs, resource groups, networking and other foundational infrastructure.
- Perform software installation, configuration and upgrades.
- Establish connectivity between data’s core tools with upstream sources, downstream target platforms along with our Azure based components.
- Maintain production along with the lower environments for responsible development and testing.
- Daily operational support SaaS applications, metadata import schedules, and overall operating model implementation.
- Cooperate with DevOps/CICD initiatives necessary to automate promotion of enhancements from development to production.
- Enable and manage on and off boarding of users and teams respecting the licensing requirements of each tool.
- Monitor and troubleshoot performance and issues experienced with our tooling.
- Understand, track and optimize consumption related costs.
- As owner of this technology stack, Air Canada relies on your hands on expertise to provide feedback to the strategic architects and leaders to guide the evolution of this infrastructure.
- Manage Azure cloud platform (deploy Azure resources (ex. VMs/databases/storage accounts), configure, monitor, maintain and optimize resources usage
- Develop macros/scenarios to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention
- Onboard users and manage Security
- Troubleshoot issues and provide technical support
- Manage WIKI/documentation
Qualifications
- A relevant University degree/technical certification in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and/or relevant experience commensurate to the role.
- 9-12 years of IT technology or experience in a similar capacity in a large company.
- Knowledge and experience with architecture guidance, database, Big Data technologies, along with ETL and Ingestion technologies (e.g DataBricks, Talend, Snowflake, Collibra, Data Iku).
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Proven ability to be highly productive and efficient in a team driven environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience in Airline data management is an asset.
