Position Title: Senior Data Scientist (LSC, SSC, OSC, BOS)

Position Summary
The Data Science & Analytics team at JetBlue is an integral part of the IT Data organization, reporting directly to the Chief Digital & Technology Officer due to the strategic importance of Data at JetBlue. The Data Science & Analytics team consists of Operations Data Science (ODS), Commercial Data Science (CDS), Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML) engineering, and Business Intelligence (BI) teams operating in a center-of-excellence model reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Science & Analytics. The teams develop advanced Data products and insights for all cross-functional teams at JetBlue, including up/cross-skilling the internal analyst community.
The Senior Data Scientist plays a crucial leadership role within this team, responsible for shaping and driving the technical data science strategy at JetBlue. This position involves overseeing multiple high-impact projects, guiding data scientists, and leading the development and deployment of innovative machine learning models and AI solutions that address JetBlue’s most complex commercial and operational challenges. The Senior Data Scientist will lead efforts in Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), advanced feature engineering, real-time streaming pipeline development, and model evaluation, ensuring the seamless integration and scalability of AI/ML solutions across the organization. This role also requires close collaboration with senior leaders to align data science initiatives with JetBlue’s long-term business objectives and ensure that the Data Science & Analytics team remains at the forefront of technological innovation. This role reports to the Manager, Data Science & Analytics.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate their business needs into advanced machine learning or statistical problems.
- Support production-grade Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) deployment solutions for batch, real-time streaming, and edge deployments in collaboration with business, engineering, infrastructure, and data science teams.
- Drive the integration of AI & ML products through robust data pipelines, common libraries, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CICD) practices, and comprehensive documentation.
- Mentor and guide data scientists in the development of data products, ensuring high standards in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model building.
- Establish and implement team best practices including code reviews, documentation, automation, and testing.
- Grow the team through responsibilities such as developing interview question banks and interviewing candidates.
- Communicate complex experiments, models, and analytics outputs effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

Minimum Experience And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a quantitative discipline; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
- Three (3) years of relevant industry experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, git, and common data science and machine learning libraries.
- Experience in defining and driving data science strategy that aligns with broader business objectives, including the identification of new opportunities for AI/ML adoption.
- Demonstrated experience in building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production environments.
- Advanced understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to successfully complete technical interviews and take-home tests in areas of statistics, machine learning, SQL, Python, PySpark, optimization, and MLOps.
- Available for overnight travel (10%).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
Preferred Experience And Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or a quantitative discipline.
- Five (5) years of relevant industry experience.
- Extensive experience applying various Machine Learning techniques, such as Time Series Forecasting, Recommendation Systems, A/B Testing, Dynamic Pricing, Logistics Optimization, Churn Analysis, Segmentation Analysis, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning.
- Experience with Databricks, PySpark/Spark, Azure Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, PyTorch, Keras, and TensorFlow.
- Own end to end development and deployment of a data science product to production.
- Contribution to team tooling such as a shared library, unit testing, or CI/CD framework.
- History of championing team process improvements.

- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.

Compensation
- The base pay range for this position is between $135,000.00 and $170,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
