An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Specialist - Digital Technical to join Rolls-Royce Submarines in Derby.
Our Digital products are part of our next generation technology. You’ll be a big part of shaping our designs for this technology, so we’re looking for someone with experience of Big Data Platform and cutting-edge technology designs.

Our Senior Specialist - Digital Technical generates business benefits through the application of deep technical knowledge.
Acts as a change agent, adding significant long-term value through enhancing technical competitive advantage and/or fixing problems that pose significant commercial risk. Impact may be across multiple business units within the group, or on an area of technical expertise within a single business but recognised as being significant at group level and across the wider industry.
Ensures appropriate policies, standards and best practices are defined, shared and adopted.
Pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve company capability in the specialism to address long-term technology, methods and people capability requirements.

What you’ll be doing:
You will be actively participates in the development and execution of the governance and strategy with respect to their area of specialism; is regarded as a thought leader influencing senior business and technical leaders.
- Technology Definition: Leads the definition of technology capability and work with the Specialists for delivery.
- Capability Development: Leads the Specialists in the development and application of cutting edge technologies and new capability.
- Problem Solving: Leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems, integrating cross-functional business processes, using analytical processes and applying professional judgement.
- Collaboration: Proactively participates in internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; actively involved in the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.
- Leadership: Provides Specialist direction to peers and more junior professionals. Provide technical leadership to teams and projects.
- People Capability: Supports the definition of skill and professional knowledge within their area of specialism; identifies, co-ordinates training programmes; supports the development of other specialists; provides active mentoring.
- Standards Definition: Participates with external authorities in the development of relevant policies, standards and best practices; ensures these are defined, shared and adopted within the business.
- Knowledge Sharing: Leads the sharing of Best Practice; represents their business as an authority in their defined subject; provides concise justification for decisions; records and captures salient information in reports and systems.
Who we are looking for:

- Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent, higher degree preferred)
- UK CEng (Chartered Engineer) or other national equivalent relevant to specialist subject area
- Typically a member of relevant professional body/institute at Fellow level (or equivalent)
- A deep understanding of Digital Technology, specialist subject and proven ability to influence key decisions
- Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control requirements.
- Proven experience working in a Digital team / organisation.
- Experience managing on prem technology solutions and cloud technologies.
- Finding the right balance between pace of delivery, quality, technical debt and cost is challenging.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
