One of EasyJet's top executives, COO Peter Bellew, has stepped down after the low-cost airline canceled thousands of flights this summer. Now the company has chosen David Morgan to take over.

Peter Bellew resigned on Friday to pursue other opportunities, the British low-cost carrier said on Monday according to Reuters.

Bellew is a recognized and respected leader in international aviation. Peter Brendan Bellew joined low-cost carrier Ryanair as chief operating officer (COO) in 2017. He has been in the tourism and aviation industry over 30 years. In July 2019, Bellew announced that he would be leaving Ryanair, joining rival airline, EasyJet.

EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “I would like to thank Peter for his hard work and wish him well.

EasyJet has now appointed David Morgan, who has been with the airline since 2016 including running operations in 2019, as interim COO, reporting directly to Chief Executive Johan Lundgren. Previously, Captain David Morgan has worked as Chief Flight Operations Officer at Wizz Air and has also held the positions of Chief Pilot and Fleet Captain during his time at the airline.

Morgan began his work in aviation in the armed forces of the United Kingdom and Australia and his career has taken him around the world including five years as a management pilot at the iconic Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and five years for BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia. David is also a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
