The role
As a Slinger you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is your chance to be part of something bigger, contributing directly to the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy's fleet. This could see you working on Warships, Submarines or within our factories supporting the delivery these complex engineering projects.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for:
- Undertaking slinging operations to safely move equipment and materials across various projects.
- Assisting with fleeting operations on submarines and warships, ensuring smooth and efficient movement.
- Creating basic lift and fleeting plans, demonstrating your understanding of safe lifting procedures.
- Following written instructions meticulously as detailed in a lift plan, adhering to strict safety protocols and setting up exclusion zones.
- Inspecting lifting equipment and identifying any potential issues, and quarantine non-conforming items
We offer a full-time, 36-hour position based at the historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, providing you with the opportunity to work in a truly unique environment.
Essential experience of the Slinger:
It would be beneficial, but not essential as training can be provided if applicants have the following:
- Previous experience working in a marine environment
- Knowledge of submarines and warships layouts
- Willingness to undertake development training as identified in a competency framework
- Ability to read and understand functional procedures
Qualifications for the Slinger:
Successful applicants will have one of the following:
- NVQ Level Two in Marine Engineering (Movement of Loads)
- NPORS 402 Slinger/Signaller
- CPCS Blue /A40
- Opito Slinger/Signaller
- Extensive experience working in an afloat environment
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
