Johnson Service Group, a nationally award-winning staffing firm, is seeking a Cost Accountant for a high growth engineering firm in San Diego.
Direct Hire | Onsite | Salary range $90,000 - $110,000 based on experience | Candidate must have authorization to work within the US as our client isn’t able to provide current or future sponsorship.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed cost analysis tailored to construction projects, emphasizing square footage and unit costs to inform decision-making and enhance project profitability.
- Oversee daily accounting tasks specific to construction projects, such as budget loading, contract management, billing procedures, and meticulous cost tracking.
- Collaborate closely with the estimating team to understand project revenue generation and cost implications, providing valuable insights for accurate project budgeting.
- Manage payroll understanding, accounts payable, material procurement, and inventory management within the context of construction project requirements.
- Contribute to the development of comprehensive financial models specific to projects, including revenue forecasting and break-even analysis.
- Work collaboratively with the General Ledger (GL) and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams to gain insights into the overall financial health of construction projects and the company.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and macros, for efficient data management and analysis tailored to construction project financials.
- Grow into a pivotal role within the accounting department of the company, actively contributing to strategic planning initiatives and operational efficiency improvements.
Requirements:
- 2-5 years of cost accounting experience, construction industry preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with financial modeling and analysis within the construction sector.
- Proficiency in Excel and the ability to adapt to construction-specific software platforms.
- Understanding of general ledger accounting principles within the context of construction projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proactive attitude towards learning and professional development, with a desire to advance within the company.
- Experience working in small to mid-size company.
