Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an
Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration) or Principal Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in
Redondo Beach, CA.
Position Overview
You'll be joining the Vehicle Integration (VI) organization. The VI organization provides innovative research, technology development and engineering for aircraft advanced design, including mechanical design and mechanisms, thermal systems, environment control systems, secondary power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems and electrical systems.
The selected candidate will apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including advanced design concepts, analysis, trade study evaluation and documentation of results, configuration development, and integration of assemblies, sub-assemblies and components into next higher assembly configurations.
Responsibilities Include
- Developing system level routing which may include Hydro, Fuel, ECS, and/or Electrical based on system architectures/schematics, as well as hardware integration and installation design requirements using CAD.
- Responsible for BTP Release of detail parts, assemblies and installations.
- Responsible for communicating and coordinating the design with other Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) across multiple disciplines supporting the design, development, and integration of mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Must be capable of working independently under minimal supervision and as part of a large multi-disciplined team.
- Responsible for performing system level evaluations to verify requirements and ensure airworthiness criteria are met.
- Participate in and attend internal program and customer meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem-solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team skills.
This position may be filled at either the Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration) level or Principal Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration) level depending on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications For Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration)
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience.
- Mechanical design experience in vehicle equipment, fluid systems, and/or cable/harness installation
- Experience with military aircraft avionics subsystems
- A current active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher, with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
Basic Qualifications for Principal Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Design Integration):
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.
- Mechanical design experience in vehicle equipment, fluid systems, and/or cable/harness installation
- Experience with military aircraft avionics subsystems
- Active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain any special program access(es)
Preferred Qualifications for both levels:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
- Experience with Siemens NX CAD application, including Mechanical and/or Electrical Routing
- Experience with CPLM
- Prior experience in coordinating with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within a dynamic program environment
- Experience with suppliers and supplier coordination
