Airline Sciences with the Airbus IM organization are building an airline digital twin, based on the latest cloud technology, unifying views of the customer operations, aircraft design, marketing, strategy and services. This large-scale twin will enable us to assess realistic technical tradeoffs to make our industry even more sustainable.
The Airline Sciences objective is to act as an advisor to bring airline operational representativity in all Airbus activities. By combining aircraft models, trajectory simulations and optimization, operational research, data analytics and artificial intelligence, the Airline Sciences team is able to deliver realistic aircraft performance, airline network and maintenance schedules and P&L evaluation of a virtual Airline. By analyzing historical data, the Airline Sciences team can precisely match real world conditions and provide an accurate representation of a digital airline.
A vacancy for an Flight Ops Engineer in the Airline Sciences-Trajectory Optimization team has arisen within Airbus India in Bangalore. The Airline Sciences teams are composed of Flight Physics Engineers, Data Scientists, Software developers, system architects and business analysts from all around the world.
Tasks & accountabilities
The main activities of the Airline Sciences-Trajectory Optimization team members are the following:
Develop and adapt engineering aircraft performance models and trajectory optimization algorithms within Airline Sciences application
Contribute to the innovation in the field of flight planning and trajectory optimization through research and prototyping during specific innovation tasks
Interaction with customers / written reports of achievement / presentation
Contribute to the definition and way forward for the trajectory optimization team / Airline Science strategy for the customer acceptance of the Airline Digital Twin (ADT)
Identifying, reviewing and proposing innovative changes and courses of action to management in order to develop the team’s field of expertise and effectiveness
Ensuring the support for the ADT tool
Training and knowledge transfer
This role will involve some travel for business in Europe and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
Required skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
The skills you bring
Engineering Bachelor / Master degree or equivalent
5-7 years of relevant work experience in similar scope to the responsibilities mentioned above
Overall flight physics knowledge
Basic understanding of Time-dependent numerical simulation methods
Basic knowledge of airline operations and flight planning
Back-end development experience (3+ years) in JAVA (>8) or Python or .NET
Familiar with Agile development environments. Ability to create prototypes; develop, test, refine and deploy in production environments.
You are a good team player, who likes working in a collaborative environment
You have excellent communication, presentation and analytical skills
Preference will be given to candidates with
This position requires “negotiation level” language proficiency in English. Ability to influence outcomes
Ability to work closely and effectively with people at all levels in the company including Design Office, Maintenance Services, Flight Operations, Strategy & Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Airworthiness Authorities, Air Navigation Service Providers, Suppliers, external customers and local University research associates
Understanding of decision making algorithms for flight planning would be a plus
Statistics, Data analytics and machine learning knowledge is a plus
AWS knowledge is a plus
Graph search / Operation research / Optimization knowledge is a plus

Bring airplane navigation simulations in ADT closer to real world operations.
