Software Engineering Discipline Lead
Thales Avionics in Crawley is growing, we are looking for 2 Software Engineering Discipline Leads working across a range of technology based solutions for either Civil or Military customers in the areas of airborne voice and data communication services to support cockpit and cabin; secure on-board connectivity to facilitate multiple levels of secure information exchange; and tactical mission support from planning to execution and post flight review.
Our Software Discipline Leads will inspire the improvement of best practices within Software discipline, ensuring that they are mastered effectively. A key role acting as a privileged point of contact on complex subjects and take on an educational role so that their team can reach discipline excellence and deliver competitive solutions within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities:
- Lead the Discipline Practices and Tools tailoring and deployment (including digitisation, automation, data management) across Projects and Products
- Be responsible for the adoption of new technologies
- Ensure the capitalisation and sharing of knowledge and assets (building blocks, cost estimating models, best practices, etc.)
- Foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving, new practice deployment
- Manage people within your discipline and ensure their development (skills management, coaching, career development, mind-set), the adequacy with the expected needs (quality and quantity) at the right time and the allocation to the Bids and Projects
- Perform technical reviews associated with their discipline on Bids/Products and Projects
- Ensure Operational Subject Matter Experts allocate part of their time to coach engineering people and to train people about the Domain activities

Experienced in Real-Time embedded systems & software in Development and Testing lifecycle phases
Experience of safety critical or high integrity software development in a certification-rich environment desirable
Knowledge of Aerospace-related Software Standards, or equivalents from other safety critical or high integrity markets desirable. Examples are: RTCA standards: DO-178B-C, DO-330, DO-331, DO-332

Good understanding of Engineering Standards, engineering processes and maturity models
Able to support deployment and implementation of new discipline tools
