As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, National Security, Search & Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.
About the Role
This person plays a key role as a front line Supervisor with a strong focus on leadership and accountability, overseeing one area of our manufacturing process staffed with skilled technical professionals. Their primary duties involve directing the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production delivery, quality, and cost objectives. Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, resource availability, and materials supply. Controls and influences, and is accountable for direct/indirect labour. Develops schedules and resource requirements for assigned areas. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. This role will be required to work the afternoon shift.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the Manufacturing cell team(s) to provide Operational Excellence including;
- Employee development, coaching and cross-training
- Efficient communication across all shifts and functional teams
- Prioritize workload and distribute labour across the broader operations team as required
- Directly responsible for the production staff and indirectly responsible to guide support staff to achieve product line goals
- Accountable for resource capacity planning and schedule attainment
- Drives closure to identified workmanship issues through root cause investigations
- Leads lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and Quality initiatives for product line
- Define cell performance metrics and drive performance to meet goals
- Provide management team with status reports, including cell team metrics
- Develop strategic and tactical plans for continuous improvement in processes and systems
- Support and participate in Operational Excellence activities
- Develop strong working relationships with the Operations Engineering, Materials/Planning , Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Customer Service and Finance teams
- Accountable for ensuring production staff complete the appropriate technical and compliance training
- Accountable for enforcing company policy and procedures and compliance programs including but not limited to EH&S, Quality and Business Ethics

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to understand and communicate complex technical issues to a non-technical audience
- Management and leadership skills with proven ability to inspire a team in a growing and changing environment
- Talented at developing solid working relationships with staff across all business units and collaborating with diverse personality types
- Proven track record for implementing positive change
- AS9100 knowledge and/or relevant Quality Management experience
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge and practice
- Proven track record implementing productivity improvements
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ERP
- Familiarity with manufacturing systems and functionality
Desired Education and Experiences
- At least five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role
- University Degree/College Diploma in Operations Management or equivalent experience
- Experience in a high tech manufacturing, aerospace/defense environment
- Must be eligible to meet requirements for Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
- Knowledge of ISO9000/AS9100 standards a plus
